This is an online portal with information on donations that were announced publicly (or have been shared with permission) that were of interest to Vipul Naik. The git repository with the code for this portal, as well as all the underlying data, is available on GitHub. All payment amounts are in current United States dollars (USD). The repository of donations is being seeded with an initial collation by Issa Rice as well as continued contributions from him (see his commits and the contract work page listing all financially compensated contributions to the site) but all responsibility for errors and inaccuracies belongs to Vipul Naik. Current data is preliminary and has not been completely vetted and normalized; if sharing a link to this site or any page on this site, please include the caveat that the data is preliminary (if you want to share without including caveats, please check with Vipul Naik). We expect to have completed the first round of development by the end of July 2024. See the about page for more details. Also of interest: pageview data on analytics.vipulnaik.com, tutorial in README, request for feedback to EA Forum.

Knight Foundation | 137,000.00 | 3 | -- | Communities | https://knightfoundation.org/grants/6492 | -- | Grant period: 08/01/2014 - 01/31/2015; goal: To better understand talent retention and attraction by investigating the dimensions and needs of the independent (or 'freelance') economy in Philadelphia, Charlotte and Milwaukee. |
Knight Foundation | 400,000.00 | 2 | -- | Arts | https://knightfoundation.org/grants/5403 | -- | Grant period: 04/01/2012 - 05/31/2014; part of the challenge: Knight Arts Challenge 2019; goal: To help transform historic Dilworth Plaza by commissioning sculptor Janet Echelman to create an artwork inspired by the site's historic association with water and steam Summary: To help transform historic Dilworth Plaza (Philadelphia City Hall) into a focal point for the city’s thriving downtown, the Center City District commissioned internationally recognized sculptor Janet Echelman to create an artwork inspired by the site’s historic association with water and steam. The piece will be embedded in the plaza’s new 11,600-square foot fountain and will trace above ground in real time the paths of the three subway lines below. The artwork aims to physically and psychologically transform the way people view the city’s central square and enter its public transit system. |
Knight Foundation | 850,000.00 | 1 | -- | Communities, Arts | https://knightfoundation.org/grants/4408 | -- | Grant period: 07/01/2008 - 07/31/2009; goal: To create a signature public space for Philadelphia by advancing the redevelopment of Dilworth Plaza The Center City District works to strengthen the competitiveness of Center City Philadelphia as a place to live, work and visit. This grant will help the economic development agency transform Dilworth Plaza, the city’s unwelcoming and underutilized public square adjacent to City Hall. Funds will help develop construction and engineering plans and tally the cost of transforming Dilworth Plaza into a central gathering place. The plans will be based on designs that emerged from a Knight-funded 2006 session, where architects, with public input, imagined a verdant plaza with space for outdoor cafes and cultural events. |
