Dance/USA donations received

This is an online portal with information on donations that were announced publicly (or have been shared with permission) that were of interest to Vipul Naik. The git repository with the code for this portal, as well as all the underlying data, is available on GitHub. All payment amounts are in current United States dollars (USD). The repository of donations is being seeded with an initial collation by Issa Rice as well as continued contributions from him (see his commits and the contract work page listing all financially compensated contributions to the site) but all responsibility for errors and inaccuracies belongs to Vipul Naik. Current data is preliminary and has not been completely vetted and normalized; if sharing a link to this site or any page on this site, please include the caveat that the data is preliminary (if you want to share without including caveats, please check with Vipul Naik). We expect to have completed the first round of development by the end of July 2024. See the about page for more details. Also of interest: pageview data on analytics.vipulnaik.com, tutorial in README, request for feedback to EA Forum.

Knight Foundation45,000.0024--Artshttps://knightfoundation.org/grants/5094-- Grant period: 04/01/2011 - 05/31/2013; goal: To highlight Philadelphia's professional dance community with a portable sprung floor, allowing artists to perform, rehearse and teach in non-traditional venues.
Knight Foundation20,000.0029--Artshttps://knightfoundation.org/grants/5737-- Grant period: 04/01/2013 - 03/31/2014; part of the challenge: Knight Arts Challenge 2019; goal: To raise the visibility of live dance by creating a pop-up studio in a highly visible public space where passers-by can witness the usually private rehearsal process To raise the visibility of live dance, Dance/USA Philadelphia will create a pop-up studio in a highly visible public space where companies will rehearse during a month-long exhibition planned for 2014. With trained docents on hand, passers-by can engage in casual conversation about what they see as they watch and listen to the rehearsal process through glass windows. Organizers expect more than 15,000 people to encounter the project, enabling new audiences to be captivated by the breadth and diversity of dance being made in Philadelphia. Founded in 2007 as a branch office of Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance, Dance/USA Philadelphia provides advocacy, resources, and collaborative opportunities for the dance community in Greater Philadelphia. Director Lois Welk is committed to maintaining a high level of responsiveness, keeping services available at little or no charge, and to programming that is inclusive in terms of dance genre and budget size.
