Nonprofit Finance Fund donations received

This is an online portal with information on donations that were announced publicly (or have been shared with permission) that were of interest to Vipul Naik. The git repository with the code for this portal, as well as all the underlying data, is available on GitHub. All payment amounts are in current United States dollars (USD). The repository of donations is being seeded with an initial collation by Issa Rice as well as continued contributions from him (see his commits and the contract work page listing all financially compensated contributions to the site) but all responsibility for errors and inaccuracies belongs to Vipul Naik. Current data is preliminary and has not been completely vetted and normalized; if sharing a link to this site or any page on this site, please include the caveat that the data is preliminary (if you want to share without including caveats, please check with Vipul Naik). We expect to have completed the first round of development by the end of July 2024. See the about page for more details. Also of interest: pageview data on analytics.vipulnaik.com, tutorial in README, request for feedback to EA Forum.

Knight Foundation2,000,000.004--Communities, Artshttps://knightfoundation.org/grants/5099-- Grant period: 12/13/2010 - 01/31/2012; goal: To support creative place-making investments that use the arts and other creative assets to shape the social, physical and economic character of cities, towns and communities across the United States. ArtPlace is a collaboration of top national foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts and various federal agencies to accelerate creative placemaking across the U.S. Participating foundations include Bloomberg Philanthropies, The Ford Foundation, The James Irvine Foundation, The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, The McKnight Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, Rasmuson Foundation, The Robina Foundation and an anonymous donor. In addition to the NEA, federal partners are the departments of Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, Education and Transportation, along with leadership from the White House Office of Management and Budget and the Domestic Policy Council.
Knight Foundation4,000,000.001--Communities, Artshttps://knightfoundation.org/grants/5319-- Grant period: 10/01/2011 - 09/30/2013; goal: To support ArtPlace, a creative place-making initiative that uses investments in the arts and other creative assets to shape the social, physical and economic character of cities, towns and communities across the U.S. In a shift from earlier approaches to economic development and the arts, ArtPlace neither treats the arts as an add-on nor expects development to follow on its own from stand-alone investments in cultural projects. Instead, ArtPlace supports projects in which cultural groups operate in concert with other community partners, private and public. By leveraging the arts and culture with all of a community’s other existing assets, ArtPlace aims to help communities achieve vibrant growth while doing more with less. ArtPlace sees its role as providing venture capital, seeding entrepreneurial projects that already enjoy strong local buy-in, connect to a community’s economic development strategy and have the potential to attract additional private and public support to the community.
Knight Foundation4,000,000.001--Artshttps://knightfoundation.org/grants/5803-- Grant period: 04/01/2013 - 03/31/2015; goal: To continue support for ArtPlace, a creative placemaking initiative in communities across the U.S.
