Richland County Public Library donations received

This is an online portal with information on donations that were announced publicly (or have been shared with permission) that were of interest to Vipul Naik. The git repository with the code for this portal, as well as all the underlying data, is available on GitHub. All payment amounts are in current United States dollars (USD). The repository of donations is being seeded with an initial collation by Issa Rice as well as continued contributions from him (see his commits and the contract work page listing all financially compensated contributions to the site) but all responsibility for errors and inaccuracies belongs to Vipul Naik. Current data is preliminary and has not been completely vetted and normalized; if sharing a link to this site or any page on this site, please include the caveat that the data is preliminary (if you want to share without including caveats, please check with Vipul Naik). We expect to have completed the first round of development by the end of July 2024. See the about page for more details. Also of interest: pageview data on analytics.vipulnaik.com, tutorial in README, request for feedback to EA Forum.

Knight Foundation438,000.001--Communitieshttps://knightfoundation.org/grants/4707-- Grant period: 12/07/2009 - 12/31/2011; goal: To increase Richland County residents' access to and knowledge of the technology they need to be competent job seekers and employees The Richland County Public Library consistently ranks high nationally in such areas as circulation, staffing and materials. In 2001, it was named National Library of the Year. The library's 11 branches have seen a 30 percent increase in use over the past two years. With unemployment high, residents are turning to the library in record numbers for job searches, resume preparation and unemployment services. Knight’s grant will create a job-help center at the Main Library, adding 54 computers to create a consolidated center where library staff can more readily help job seekers. Also an underserved branch in a community where almost 40 percent of residents live below the poverty line will see increased technology training, Tech Tuesdays with classes and a technology instructor. Other branches will get new computers and related equipment. In 2008, more than 578,000 people used the library's Internet computers. With the additional computers, the library expects that number to increase to 768,500.
