This is an online portal with information on donations that were announced publicly (or have been shared with permission) that were of interest to Vipul Naik. The git repository with the code for this portal, as well as all the underlying data, is available on GitHub. All payment amounts are in current United States dollars (USD). The repository of donations is being seeded with an initial collation by Issa Rice as well as continued contributions from him (see his commits and the contract work page listing all financially compensated contributions to the site) but all responsibility for errors and inaccuracies belongs to Vipul Naik. Current data is preliminary and has not been completely vetted and normalized; if sharing a link to this site or any page on this site, please include the caveat that the data is preliminary (if you want to share without including caveats, please check with Vipul Naik). We expect to have completed the first round of development by the end of July 2024. See the about page for more details. Also of interest: pageview data on analytics.vipulnaik.com, tutorial in README, request for feedback to EA Forum.

To bring great literature into more homes, Books & Books will expand its online streaming of author events featuring noted writers from a variety of genres. For more than 30 years, Books & Books has presented authors live for nightly talks and book signings at its three South Florida-based locations and offsite at partnering venues. LIVE at Books & Books allows people everywhere to watch author events online, call the store, order the book and have it signed by the author and shipped to their home. They can also participate in the conversation itself by submitting their questions to be read aloud during author Q&A sessions. All events are archived online, extending the life––and reach––of the events.

Past readers have prompted the audience to contribute a line or two of poetry according to different constraints — write in the voice of someone you know, or use a particular word, for example — with audience members called upon to read the collaborative poem. Other readers facilitated a political talkback based on the themes in their work, and experimented with text-message poetry sent from the audience to the readers in real time. Co-sponsored by Literary Detroit and letterpress studio Signal-Return, the new series breaks down barriers between the poet and audience and is welcoming to the attendees, many of whom haven’t encountered poetry since grade school.

The sun, condensed by reflection into a line, will trigger musical tones as it passes over the installation, and play composer John Cage’s work 'As Slow aS Possible.’ In experiencing the near imperceptible movement of the sun, and hearing the slow change of musical timbres, observers will be have a chance to sit and reflect. The men pedaled around their cities, selling candy and telling cliffhanger stories that kept people coming back. Adapting this concept to Detroit, organizers will create a sculptural “art” bicycle featuring a built-in wooden theater that will be pedaled during lunchtime with the hope of encouraging social connections among office workers on break. These presentations will feature original paintings and narratives by teams of artists and writers and will occur in “cliffhanger” fashion over several days.

1,000,000.0019--Artshttps://knightfoundation.org/grants/6076-- Grant period: 10/01/2013 - 09/30/2018; part of the challenge: Knight Arts Challenge 2019; goal: To create the Cultural Opportunity Fund, to provide community-based arts organizations the opportunity to present programming in a new concert hall at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. In an effort to bridge this gap, The Arts Partnership will create the Cultural Opportunity Fund, a subsidy providing emerging arts organizations with the opportunity to present programming at a state-of-the-art, 1100-seat concert hall without taking a significant financial risk. The venue size will also afford participating organizations the opportunity to sell more tickets and reach new audiences.

Summary: When a tornado touched down in her Massachusetts yard, Caitria O’Neill and her neighbors struggled to match the sudden wave of resources with massive community needs. While large aid organizations can deliver significant resources, in each disaster untrained local volunteers must help structure unofficial resources long-term. O’Neill and her sister Morgan O’Neill teamed up with engineer Alvin Liang to create Recovers.org, and to build and deliver Web tools and local hubs for disaster recovery efforts. Their online organizing platform, located at [townname.recovers.org], can be launched before or immediately after an event, to turn interest into aid. Already their platform has helped turn the post-disaster spike in interest into money, supplies and volunteers in five communities. Post-disaster launches are pro-bono, but the team licenses the software to areas interested in preparing and enabling the community’s response. The platform is already being used ahead of a disaster for preparation and community organizing in five communities nationwide.
